July's Program

Ed Peisner
Ed Peisner

Founder and Director of Education

After a long career in business, Ed Peisner founded SMS in 2017 after his teenage son Jordan was viciously assaulted in West Hills, CA. The attack was filmed and uploaded to social media by an associate of the attacker. Jordan was left with serious and life-long injuries from the assault. Ed formed SMS with the goal of ensuring that no other family had to endure such a terrible ordeal.

With patient determination, Ed set to work on public policy advocacy and grassroots engagement. Incredibly, within only a year, California, because of Ed’s hard work, passed the nation’s first law to deter social media motivated violence, or attacks initiated to be filmed and distributed on social media for the purpose of gaining internet notoriety. The law was aptly called Jordan’s Law.

After a successful year of advocacy, Ed realized the true scope and depth of the threats coming from social media use and the absence of any organization really dedicated exclusively to social media-related risks. So, in 2018, SMS expanded its mission becoming an independent and non-partisan social media watchdog and consumer protection organization.

Ed now serves as SMS’ Director of Education. He proudly travels the country teaching thousands of students and parents how best to stay safe while using social media.

July's Breakfast Sponsor

Ty Supancic, Family Law Attorney Specializing in Estate Planning and Family Law

Ty Supancic, Esquire

Before joining The Law Collaborative, Ty was a satisfied client.  Ty and his ex used one of the Law Collaborative's mediators for their divorce because they had a small child and understood that ending the marriage would not end their relationship: They would be co-parents for the rest of their lives and they did not want the kind of divorce that would traumatize their child. Children of divorce are seriously damaged by having to make decisions like, "I just got my diploma, but my parents are sitting at opposite ends sides of the auditorium because they hate each other -- who do I go to hug first?"

While Ty and his ex were able to have a quiet, dignified, and private divorce, the ultimate beneficiary was their daughter who got to grow up with cooperative co-parents and was spared the horrible toll that divorce courts inflict on children.  Divorce is almost always a traumatic experience but it doesn't have to destroy families -- it can be a tool for loving reorganization.

Before practicing law, Ty worked in entertainment as a talent agent and personal manager representing and developing talent, film projects, music acts, and even a headliner on the Vegas Strip.  As both an agent and a manager, Ty supervised and worked closely with attorneys negotiating talent contracts, option agreements, production deals, and music licensing.

But after his divorce, Ty realized he could help other families through that difficult process and better plan for their futures if he joined his father, a pioneer of Consensual Dispute Resolution, and became an attorney. With this realization, Ty started working as a paralegal in his father's firm and enrolled in the California State Bar Law Office Study Program to begin "reading the law."

After passing the First Year Law Student's Exam, or "Baby Bar", and later the "Big Bar" Ty was sworn in as a licensed attorney. Ty is thankful that California is one of the seven states that still provide an avenue to study and become an attorney on the traditional path followed by Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln.

Ty’s deep personal commitment to Consensual Dispute Resolution, his background in entertainment, and his non-traditional schooling provide great advantages to his clients.  Law schools focus on adversarial, Win-Lose approaches which are antithetical to Consensual Dispute Resolution.  By omitting the usual adversarial indoctrination from his schooling, Ty utilizes new solutions for conflict resolution, saving his clients time, money, and heartbreak.

Ty is a frequent contributor to the Los Angeles Daily Journal, a popular and dynamic speaker on legal issues, and an expert in the area of Gun Trusts. Ty is a member of WealthCounsel, has studied entertainment law at UCLA, and completed Advanced Mediation Training with Kenneth Cloke, J.D., Ph.D. at The Center for Dispute Resolution, and Collaborative Law Training with LACFLA. In 2018, Ty was named a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers.

Ty's practice encompasses all aspects of Family Law, including premarital and post nuptial agreements, divorce, child supportchild custodyalimony, adoption, and other family law matters. Ty also practices in all areas of estate planning including asset protectionwills and trusts, charitable planning, Gun Trusts, and healthcare planning documentsentertainment attorney

Being born and raised in the area she specializes in?

Being totally family orientated and a people person?

Being trustworthy, hardworking and full of energy and enthusiasm?

Well with Tracy Taggart you get it all……….

Tracy Taggart was born in Woodland Hills and has lived and
worked in the community her entire life.  This, along with 15 years of
worldwide sales experience makes her uniquely qualified to help you sell or
find a home in Woodland Hills or the surrounding areas.

Her experience allows her to direct her efforts to your needs, which are
essential to finding you a home that is perfectly suited to your needs and
dreams or making a sale and seeing it through to completion.

She understands that properties do not simply sell themselves and an
appropriate marketing plan is essential and correct pricing is crucial.
Honesty and integrity are essential in communicating these important issues to her clients.  Tracy understands that in order to sell or find a property
in these more realistic times hard work and perseverance makes the
difference.  Taking the time and utilizing the extensive resources
available to make sure that a property is viewed in its most favorable light
and fully exposed to the real estate community takes a person who is willing to give one hundred percent of her effort.  Tracy is just such an individual.

Although she has owned several different homes in the area, Tracy and her
family, that included twin boys and dog have returned to her roots and live in
the home in which Tracy was born.

After lovingly renovating the house her parents built in 1964.  Tracy’s
belief in continuity and family values is evident in the way she runs her
career.  When she finds the perfect home, makes a sale or simply makes a
new acquaintance and potential client, she is warm and sincere and understands that only from trust and respect can fruitful and longstanding relationships develop.

Besides daily walks through the neighborhood with her children and dog and
keeping fit with Pilates, Tracy is an golfer, skier, loves to travel with her
boys and spend time with them at the beach.
Tracy also does her part for the environment and is the owner  of
Electronic Recycling Solutions(ERS), which is an approved collector of
Electronic Waste for the state of California.

Please give TracyTaggart a call before your next venture into the real estate market.  Whether you are looking to sell, buy or simply get a perspective on the dynamic local real estate market, Tracy will be happy to help.

DTP Non-Profit of Choice

ABOUT CENTER4SPECIALNEEDS

Center4SpecialNeeds is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation founded in 2011 that provides resources, education, and programs for families and individuals affected by developmental disabilities in Ventura County, California.  Center4SpecialNeeds' vision is to have families benefit from the information we provide, to help children progress, to help parents restore some balance in their lives and not feel they are in constant crisis mode. We want parents, who are feeling isolated and alone, to feel embraced and supported. We want to provide opportunities for individuals with special needs as they develop into thriving members of our community.

Be Part of the Change!

Center4SpecialNeeds is a non-profit organization and depends on your generous support!

Our monthly goal is for 300 individuals to make a monthly pledge of $20 for one year, which would provide the funding we need to sustain our programs, and expand to reach more individuals and families. For $20 per month, less than the price of one dinner for two at a casual restaurant, you have the opportunity to improve the quality of life for someone with special needs!

  • C4SN has undergone a dramatic expansion in our programs for children, teens, young adults, and families affected by developmental disabilities.
  • We now employ 6 part-time paid staff and numerous volunteers with special needs!
  • Without the safe and compassionate space of our office, many of these young adults would be isolated from the community and spending much of their time at home.

We need your support! You can join Center4SpecialNeeds in making an impact for individuals & their families by making a financial contribution, volunteering, or offering a donation of services or items. Click here to be part of the change and help us reach our goal!
